Our physiotherapists each have a long personal history of exercise and sport participation. We are also trained and certified in a variety of different exercise forms that work well with promoting health and fitness and living well. We may incorporate these exercise forms into our normal treatment as well as offer specific individual or group classes.
STOTT PILATES® Individual Classes
Pilates is a long-standing exercise form developed by Joseph Pilates in 1908. Pilates works well with physiotherapy using mindful movement to help the body’s stabilizing muscles function easily and its large movement muscles work more efficiently. This balances the muscular system to avoid tight and overactive muscles. Individual sessions ensure that the right exercises are done for your body and for you to get the most out of an exercise session. Pilates can be used with any population, and we have equipment and props to make any exercise as difficult or easy as it needs to be.
STOTT PILATES® Group Mat classes
Mat classes are great for helping Pilates beginners understand the movement patterns and muscle work we want to enhance with Pilates equipment later in your practice. Then you can easily take these movements and practice them at home. It is important that you have the ability to move around easily on the floor and be able to get up and down from the floor without strain. Therefore, this class is not for everyone. Exercises can be easily varied to meet the needs of all: from someone with poor core strength up to a professional athlete.
Total barre™ Classes
Barre classes have swept the world in recent years. Total Barre™ is a great ballet and dance-inspired workout that has a lot of variety and is completed to the beat of the music. Don't worry if you have never danced before or have no coordination, it is both fun and effective for everyone. The barre will help with your balance and tone and tighten your abs, legs and arms in a fun way. Classes always seem to end before anyone is ready for them to.
STOTT PILATES® Equipment Circuit Classes
At Adventure Physiotherapy we have a variety of STOTT PILATES® Equipment. This includes a reformer with upright attachment, a Pilates chair and a Pilates barrel, as well as some small equipment including a spine corrector which makes exercises easier for any stage of pregnancy, rotational discs for balance work and many small weights and rollers. With this equipment it works well to have a circuit-type class in which there are a few exercises per piece of equipment and you rotate through the hour-long class. This keeps exercise challenging and different.
Our level one movnat certified trainer follows a physical education & fitness system based on the full range of natural human movements. These include locomotive skills (walking, running, jumping, balancing, crawling, and climbing), and manipulative skills (lifting, carrying, throwing, and catching). Fitness is achieved by practicing movement skills in the pursuit of mastery.
